Companies House Identity Verification – Mandatory from 18 November 2025

18 November 2025

Same-Day Company Formation From 18 November 2025, Companies House will introduce mandatory identity verification for directors, People with Significant Control (PSCs), and anyone submitting filings on behalf of a company. This change forms part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act and represents one of the most significant updates to UK company law in decades.

If you run a company – or plan to form one – you need to be ready for the new rules.

This date is not a deadline. It marks the start of a 12-month transition period, giving your company time to make sure all directors and people with significant control (PSCs) have verified their identity by their due dates.

Who must verify their identity?

Companies House will require identity checks for:

What happens on and after 18 November 2025?

How verification will work

There will be two approved routes:

  1. Direct verification with Companies House
Individuals use their passport, driving licence, or other approved ID to complete a secure online check. This is a free-to-use service – https://www.gov.uk/guidance/verify-your-identity-for-companies-house
  2. Verification through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)
This option is ideal for those who prefer managed compliance.

Why early preparation matters

Ensuring your directors and PSCs complete verification early will help avoid rejected filings, administrative delays, or potential compliance breaches once the new regime takes effect.
